Review FORD Heads Flathead Finned Offenhauser Aluminum Polished fits 1939-48

The 1068-400 heads for the flathead Ford engines, specifically those used in finned Offenhauser applications between 1939 and 1948, are a testament to the rich history of racing and automotive engineering. These heads are meticulously crafted to deliver optimal performance and reliability, making them a favorite among vintage racing enthusiasts and restoration specialists.

The 1068-400 heads are designed with a unique intake port shape and size, which allows for a more efficient airflow into the combustion chamber. This design feature, combined with the finned aluminum construction, helps to keep the head temperature cool, ensuring consistent performance even under high-stress racing conditions.

The 1068-400 heads are also known for their robustness and durability. The finned design not only aids in cooling but also provides an additional layer of strength to the head, helping it withstand the rigors of racing. The heads are precision-machined to ensure a perfect fit with the flathead Ford engine, ensuring a smooth and reliable operation.

The 1068-400 heads are a testament to the craftsmanship and engineering prowess of the era. They represent a time when racing was a pure and unadulterated expression of automotive innovation and passion. Whether you're restoring a classic race car or simply want to upgrade your flathead Ford engine, the 1068-400 heads are an excellent choice. They offer a balance of power, reliability, and style that few other parts can match.

Pros of buying a 1939-48 Flathead Ford finned Offenhauser engine (1068-400 heads):

1. Historical significance: These engines have a rich history in racing, particularly in the early days of the Indianapolis 500.

2. Performance: The 1068-400 heads offer improved airflow and power compared to the original flathead heads.

3. Collectibility: As a rare and desirable engine, it has the potential to increase in value over time.

4. Availability of parts: Many aftermarket parts are available for these engines, making it easier to maintain and repair.

Cons of buying a 1939-408 Offenhauser engine:

1. Cost: These engines can be expensive, both to purchase and to maintain.

2. Complexity: The engines are relatively complex, and require specialized knowledge and tools to maintain and repair.

3. Availability: While many parts are available, finding some specific parts for these older engines can be challenging.

4. Compatibility: The engine may not be compatible with your specific vehicle, requiring additional modifications.

Conclusion:

While a 1939-408 Offenhauser engine can offer improved performance and historical significance, the high cost and complexity of these engines should be carefully considered before making a purchase. If you have the knowledge, resources, and desire to maintain and repair an older engine, it can be a rewarding investment. However, if you are looking for a more practical and budget-friendly option, there may be other engine options that better suit your needs.

Recommendation:

If you are interested in a 1939-408 Offenhauser engine, it is recommended to research the specific engine and its compatibility with your vehicle before making a purchase. Consider the cost of ownership, including parts and maintenance, and make sure you have the necessary knowledge and resources to maintain and repair the engine. Additionally, consider buying from a reputable seller to ensure the engine is in good condition and can be reliably sourced for any needed parts.

Details:

Offenhauser Ford flathead finned aluminum heads. The sides and the tops of the fins are what is polished, down in between the fins still is the factory aluminum texture finish.

They have been polished and were used for about 500 miles on the 46 engine they were on. New they are 600 and that's non polished just the rough aluminum casting they come as new.
