Review MERCEDES benz Diesel Cylinder Head Assembly fits W210

The **Mercedes-Benz 6060160801 W210 OM606 Diesel Cylinder Head** is a meticulously engineered component designed exclusively for the iconic **W210 generation** of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, spanning models such as the **E-Class (E200, E220, E240 Diesel), C-Class (C200, C220 Diesel), and the SLK (R170) with OM606 diesel engines**. This cylinder head represents the pinnacle of precision manufacturing, crafted from high-grade **cast aluminum alloy (A356 or A357)** to ensure optimal thermal conductivity, lightweight performance, and durability under the demanding conditions of high-pressure diesel combustion. The OM606 engine, renowned for its reliability and efficiency, relies on this cylinder head to maintain seamless operation, featuring a **multi-valve design** with **four valves per cylinder (intake and exhaust)** arranged in a compact, high-flow configuration to maximize airflow and combustion efficiency. The head incorporates **hydraulic valve lifters** for silent operation and reduced wear, paired with **titanium or forged steel valves** that are precision-machined to exacting tolerances to withstand the extreme pressures and temperatures generated by direct-injection diesel fuel. Critical components such as the **camshaft lobes, rocker arms, and valve springs** are integrated into this assembly, ensuring synchronized valve timing and minimizing friction for optimal engine performance. For enhanced emissions compliance, the cylinder head may include **EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) ports** and **catalytic converter mounting points**, depending on the model year, allowing for seamless integration with aftermarket or OEM emissions systems. This part is a **direct-fit replacement**, meticulously reverse-engineered to match the original specifications of the W210 OM606, including **threaded bolt patterns, gasket surfaces, and mounting flanges**, ensuring a perfect seal and structural integrity when installed. Whether used for **restoration projects, performance upgrades, or routine maintenance**, this cylinder head is a critical component that upholds the legendary reputation of the Mercedes-Benz W210 lineup, delivering **superior power delivery, fuel efficiency, and longevity** with every turn of the engine.

### **Pros and Cons of Buying a Mercedes-Benz W210 OM606 Diesel Cylinder Head (Part Number: 6060160801)**

#### **Pros:**

1. **Compatibility and Fitment** This cylinder head is designed specifically for the **Mercedes-Benz W210 (E-Class, 1995 2002)** with the **OM606 diesel engine (M112/M113 variants, 2.8L/3.0L)**. It ensures proper sealing, valve timing, and combustion efficiency when installed correctly.

2. **Performance Potential** A well-maintained or restored OM606 cylinder head can significantly improve engine performance, especially if the original head was worn or damaged. Proper machining and valve jobbing can restore power output and fuel efficiency.

3. **Cost-Effective Replacement** Compared to a full engine rebuild or replacement, a new or remanufactured cylinder head is a more affordable solution for addressing issues like **leaking head gaskets, warped surfaces, or worn valves/seats**.

4. **Remanufactured Quality** If purchasing a **remanufactured** head (rather than a used one), it undergoes **machining, sealing, valve grinding, and leak testing**, making it more reliable than a salvaged part.

5. **Aftermarket Support** The OM606 is a well-documented engine, and parts like **valve springs, retainers, seals, and gaskets** are widely available from aftermarket suppliers.

6. **Long-Term Durability** When properly installed and maintained, a new cylinder head can last **100,000 miles**, especially in a low-mileage or well-cared-for W210.

---

#### **Cons:**

1. **Age and Wear Concerns** The **W210 was produced from 1995 2002**, and many engines have **high mileage**. If the original head was neglected, it may still have **internal wear (valve guides, seats, or camshaft lobes)** that require additional work.

2. **Machining and Preparation Required** Simply swapping in a new head may not be enough. The **block deck, cylinder bores, and camshaft lobes** must be inspected and machined if necessary. A **full engine rebuild** may still be needed if the block is worn.

3. **Cost of Installation** While the cylinder head itself may be reasonably priced, **labor costs for removal, machining, and reassembly** can be high, especially if done professionally.

4. **Potential for Hidden Damage** If buying a **used or salvaged head**, there s a risk of **cracks, warping, or internal corrosion** that isn t immediately visible. A **pressure test and ultrasonic inspection** are recommended before purchase.

5. **Limited Availability of New Parts** While aftermarket suppliers stock OM606 components, **OEM (Mercedes-Benz) cylinder heads are no longer produced**, meaning you re relying on remanufacturers or used parts.

6. **Compatibility with Modifications** If the engine has been **turbocharged, tuned, or modified**, the stock cylinder head may not handle increased stress. A **stiffer head or upgraded internals** may be needed.

7. **Potential for Future Issues** Even with a new head, **timing chain stretch, oil leaks, or injector problems** (common in OM606 engines) can still arise, requiring additional maintenance.

---

### **Conclusion:**

Buying a **Mercedes-Benz W210 OM606 diesel cylinder head (6060160801)** can be a **cost-effective and performance-enhancing upgrade** if the engine s other components (block, camshaft, injectors) are in good condition. However, it is **not a standalone fix** a **comprehensive engine inspection and potential rebuild** may still be necessary for long-term reliability.

If the goal is **restoring power and longevity**, a **new or remanufactured head** is preferable to a used one. If the engine has **high mileage or known issues (e.g., warped block, worn camshaft)**, a **full rebuild** may be more economical in the long run.

---

### **Recommendation:** 1. **If the engine is low-mileage and healthy:**

- **Purchase a remanufactured cylinder head** from a reputable supplier (e.g., **Mercedes-Benz parts dealer, Summit Racing, or a trusted engine rebuild shop**).

- **Inspect the block, camshaft, and injectors** if they are worn, address them simultaneously.

- **Consider a valve job and head gasket replacement** for optimal sealing.

2. **If the engine has high mileage or unknown history:**

- **Get a full engine inspection** (compression test, leak-down test, block scan for warping).

- **Decide between:**

- A **partial rebuild (just head critical internals)** if the block is sound.

- A **full engine rebuild** if the block or camshaft is damaged.

- **Avoid buying a used head without testing** opt for a **remanufactured unit with warranty**.

3. **If the engine is part of a classic project:**

- **Prioritize authenticity** if restoring to stock specs, ensure the head matches the original build year.

- **Budget for additional work** (e.g., **camshaft upgrade, turbo tuning**) if performance gains are desired.

**Final Verdict:**

A **new or remanufactured OM606 cylinder head is a smart investment** for a W210 diesel owner who wants to **fix head-related issues without a full engine swap**. However, **proper preparation and inspection of the rest of the engine are critical** to avoid recurring problems. If in doubt, consult a **Mercedes specialist or engine rebuild shop** before purchasing.

Details:

Because of all these reasons I have listed this head for parts or repair. There are three exhaust studs broken off in it see photos. The lifter guides have the same thing going on with grime that might polish off. There are drill marks on one of the holes for cam chain slider pins see photo.

The valve seats for the exhaust valves will likely need to be recur or at very least lapped. Mercedes Benz OM606 Diesel Cylinder Head. Some of the lifters are in good shape while others have some grime around them not sure if this will polish off. All of the glow plug threads look good.

This part is in need of some work before it can be used.
